RQAS Biennial

Royal Queensland Art Society celebrates 130 years.

The RQAS Biennial– a new initiative comprising of  three key exhibitions for Queensland Artists

QLD Figurative

The Queensland Figurative is a unique Non- Acquisitive competition open to Queensland Artists for two-dimensional works containing the human figure (s) integrated so as to create a harmonious and unified composition.

Now in its third year, the QLD Figurative offers prize money in excess of $11,000. This exhibition attracts artists from far and wide showcasing the best that Queensland has to offer.

Harold Richardson was the first Gallery Director at the RQAS and a long-standing president. His wife Agnes was also an integral part of the society as an artist and in supporting the RQAS to grow and develop. This prize is awarded in their memory and made possible by an endowment of funds from their estate. The Harold and Agnes Richardson Drawing Prize is an open competition calling for artists to demonstrate their drawing skills. There is over $2000 in prizes for this prestigious competition.

The Young Artist Award has expanded this year to include two categories 14 – 17 and 18 – 30. This exhibition is open to all Queensland artists 14 – 30 and aims to encourage and support young artists who are looking for a career in Fine Art.

Date: 16th – 27th October 2018
Opening night: 17th October 2018
Judges: TBA

As well as providing a platform and prizes for Queensland’s experienced and emerging fine art talent, the RQAS Biennial will include workshops, demonstrations of fine art skills, discussion forums, Gala opening nights, Devonshire teas and live music.
